Female Facial Hirsutism

About facial hair removal

– Facial hair is normal

All women have hair on their faces and bodies, but it is usually light and fine. When it becomes dark, coarse, or thick in growth, it can cause some women distress. There are many methods of facial hair removal, if you wish to bleach or remove this hair. However, if it does not bother you or cause distress, there is no medical reason why you have to remove it.

– Causes of excess hair

Certain ethnic groups will have naturally darker or thicker hair, and this can include facial hair. Some medicines can cause hirsutism (excess hair growth), but being overweight or obese can also have this effect. If you’re living with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), this can cause your body to produce more testosterone, which stimulates hair growth. If you experience sudden hair growth in unusual places, you should see your GP to rule out any underlying conditions.

– Treatments & options

There is a wide range of options and products available if you wish to bleach or remove hair, including shaving, waxing, electrolysis, laser hair removal and some types of contraceptive pill. These vary in effectiveness, depending on your skin and hair type. Most hair removal creams you can buy in shops remove hair temporarily. Prescription creams like Vaniqa stop your hair follicle working properly, slowing growth.

– Our facial hair removal clinic

Women of 19 years and older can retard the growth of facial hair by using Vaniqa cream (eflornithine 11.5%). To be prescribed this you must already have been diagnosed with hirsutism by your doctor. This is because in some cases the excessive hair growth is due to an underlying condition which may need investigation.

Urge Incontinence and Over Active Bladder

Urge incontinence is when there is a sudden urge to urinate and there is difficulty controlling it. An overactive bladder is where there is an urge to urinate but there may not be any leakage, there will usually be an increased frequency in urination and possibly more urination at night. We can only treat people between the ages of 18 and 65 who have already been diagnosed and undergone supervised bladder training. We cannot treat people for stress or overflow incontinence. For the consultation you will need to bring a list of medicines you are currently taking. You will need to return for a review after 4 weeks. If the tablets have worked well then we can supply them indefinitely provided that you pop in for a check-up every 2-3 months.

Urinary Tract Infection Advance Supply

What are the symptoms of a bladder infection?

The symptoms of a water infection vary depending upon its severity. However, most people experience the following:

  • Needing to urinate more often than usual
  • Pain or a burning/stinging sensation while urinating
  • The sudden urge to urinate
  • Feeling as though you cannot fully empty your bladder
  • Abdominal pain
  • Foul-smelling, cloudy or bloody urine
  • Feeling achy, tired and unwell

On their own, these symptoms typically point to a lower UTI such as cystitis. This means that the infection has only affected the urethra and/or bladder. If the infection spreads further up the urinary tract to the ureters or kidneys this is known as an upper UTI. An upper UTI is more serious than a lower UTI, and its symptoms include:

  • A fever
  • Pain in your back and sides
  • Chills
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Confusion
  • Agitation and restlessness

Left untreated, an upper UTI can seriously damage the kidneys and spread to the bloodstream.

Many people have had several UTIs in the past and need antibiotics at hand for when this should happen again. We can treat women between 18 and 65 who suffer from repeated uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections as diagnosed by their doctor. Unfortunately, we cannot treat people who have had a UTI in the past 3 months or display symptoms of an upper UTI e.g. a temperature over 38.C
